Our family has decided to add an addition to our lives! We have decided to sponser a child in need.
Every year, the radio show I listen to religiously has a special radio-thon to promote World vision. With world vision you can pick a child to sponser for about $1 a day and make a HUGE difference to the life of a child, who, just by fate, was born in a world much different than the one my own girls were born into.
I have always been very aware how lucky I am to have been born into a country and family where I have access to clean water, health care, food, a real bed, education. While I am sitting in line at the drive threw starbucks in my air-conditioned car with my girls sitting in $300 car seats, its SO easy to forget that accross the world, there is a little girl, just like my girls living in a slum with no access to healthcare, education, or clean water or other basic human needs in a community severely affected by the HIV and AIDS crisis, quite possibly her own parents.
I am so touched each year listening to these stories about the rest of the world that is so easy to forget. This year, I jumped in with both feet (after a little research to make sure its legit) and commited to sponser a child.
Chad and I chose South Africa and we wanted a little girl who is right in between both our girls ages, and we wanted an area affected by HIV and AIDS...after scrolling through pictures upon pictures of these children (I wish I could help them all)...I saw Asanele, something about her just caught my eye. This will sound so crazy, but I saw both my girls in her eyes and knew that is the one I wanted to sponser.
She lives with her parents and 1 sister she was born Mar 24, 2008. Asanele and her family live in a community severely affected by the HIV and AIDS crisis. In some communities, AIDS affects the entire social structure as a generation of hardworking adults is being wiped out. Frightened children and exhausted grandparents rarely have money for food, school, or medical care. Through sponsorship I will be helping with these and other basic needs for Asanele and her family.
I also have a picture of her...maybe I will post it later.
SO thats it...for $1 a day I am making a difference. And who among us don't waste at least $35 on crap each month...I know my husband alone wastes at least 3X that on nothing.
I encourage anyone who is interested in sponsering a child to visit this website.
