I was sitting in a conference today and I was concentrating deeply on the P&C Trends for 2008/9 and suddenly, I looked around the room and a realization came over me: I was the youngest person in this room. Not only that, most of the people in this room graduated high school (or college) when I was born.
That brought on a question: Where my 20-somethings at?
oh, for those who don't know I am an Finance Analyst in Controllers Accounting at an insurance company. okay and I admit that my job prob isn't the most glamorous position out there that 20-somethings to seek out, and its not the kind of job you can get with any'ol degree, its a pretty specialized field, so you would have wanted to be in the field from College.
I have been at my job for about three years now I was 24 when I got the job and here I am three years later and I am STILL the youngest there. I can't explain it in words, its just a strange thing sometimes I feel like a child in a sea of adults. I keep waiting for them to hire more people in my age group, whats going to happen when the older crowd retires, all of that experience based knowledge in their brains go with them...now THAT is a scary thought...who would I go to with questions? Insurance accounting is an ugly beast.
I actually don't like to tell people how old I am sometime because they make a big hoopla about how young I am and what they were doing when THEY were 27, oh and how I was sperm when THEY were 27. Sometimes I wonder if I look old or something because people sometimes seemed shocked at my age.
I don't know where I was going with this...I thought once I started typing it would take shape, but I guess not. Its just interesting corporate observations that's all! Feel free to forget you ever read this...
